New Apple Tablet?

New Samsung solid state drives perfect for next generation Apple portables

Submitted by Cleve Nettles on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 13:06.

Samsung has announced wicked-fast solid state drives that come in both 1.8 (ipod-ish) inch and 2.5(laptop) inch sizes. These are 30% faster than the fastest solid state drives to date and come in sizes up to 64Gb.

Yes of course we are thinking what you are thinking. This would be the planets aligning. Expect Apple to have a Macworld announcement. This would be too good not to be true.

Tablet Mac in the works?

Submitted by Cleve Nettles on Tue, 11/06/2007 - 20:34.

Everybody and their brother is talking about ASUS and their supposed new Tablet Mac contract. While it is entirely possible that they are making a device for Apple. - they would be in DEEP DODO for leaking that information. So, more than likely, they aren't. Well at least the guy from C|Net doesn't know if they are.

The first rule about making products for Apple is you don't talk about making products for Apple.

iphone

This is a long overdue update for the iPhone junkies!

Lots has happened over the past couple of weeks continuing Steve Jobs relentless quest to build hype and even controversy around his newest conquest in the world of technology a couple of highlights in case you have been hibernating in wait for ski season.

  1. iPhone gets “bricked” :  The newest update 1.1.1 renders unlocked iPhones useless thus turning them into nothing more than expensive paper weights.   This does not apply to folks that legitimately purchased AT&T’s service only those who by the phones to unlock them and add another sim card (i.e. T-Mobile).  If you have friends that unlocked and got bricked here is the next step in the battle : http://blogs.zdnet.com/ip-telephony/?p=2475  Many of the hackers and iPhone users alike are making claims of a Class action lawsuit with their main argument being that Apple cannot control how and what users HAVE to do with their iPhones (in this case, considered computers).  This precedent will be interesting as phones get more sophisticated in the future.
  2. The good of the update:  IPhone now has TV/video out capability, double tapping space bar to insert period and space…You will now have a NEW icon on your screen…it is the much anticipated iTunes direct icon where you can search, preview, download and buy iTunes content directly through your phone.  Here is a good summary of the updates:

  1. And if you didn’t hear about the Starbucks deal visit one to pick up the “free song of the day card”

  1. Lastly – REFUND.   Early adopters get $100 credit in the Apple store.  You need to claim it by November 30th.

iPhone update alert!

Tomorrow is a big day for iPhones in San Francisco…keep your eyes peeled on the apple.com website.  Hopefully they will be releasing the updates to enable ringtone support in iTunes!

Inevitble Iphone Clones and Ringtones

http://www.itechnews.net/2007/05/25/cect-p168-iphone-clone/

And some ringtone salvation!

NYPost reports that Apple will be launching a ringtone service for iPhone users next week.

The service - expected to be unveiled when Apple announces its new lineup of iPods - would allow users to turn almost any song sold through iTunes into a ringtone for an additional fee. The exact price was unclear.

The service is said to allow users to convert songs they have previously purchased to be turned into a ringtone, with user-controlled ability to choose which portion of the song to use. Beyond that, Apple is said to plan on offering traditional ringtones as well.

Much of this reiterates a rumor earlier this week also suggesting that Apple will introduce ringtone support during the September 5th media event.

The rumors are also consistent with a previous report about Apple's plans to sell custom ringtones.

In the meanwhile, 3rd party developers have stepped up to fill this custom ringtone demand. Ambrosia Software has released their ringtone tool (iToner) for the Mac. Of interest, Ambrosia's iToner is said to install ringtones "the proper way, without any hacks" which should be resilient to future iPhone updates. Windows users have had the option of using iPhoneRingToneMaker.

While both tools are shareware, they do not have a per-ringtone fee that is expected with Apple's service. More adventerous users can use various hacking tools such as iFuntastic.

the question is ... will the Apple approach (to be announced next Wednesday) allow you to select a non iTunes purchased song for a ring tone? The iToner product appears to allow you to make a ring tone from any song (e.g. including those you may have ripped off a CD that you own).

new software updates crash my iPhone, other iPhone rumors

This morning I awoke to a new iPhone update.  I had to do it manually (check for updates button in iTunes).  See details on the Apple site:

iPhone Software 1.0.1 released

Apple has released iPhone Software 1.0.1, featuring security fixes and perhaps some bug fixes too. You can download it by attaching your iPhone to iTunes, and clicking on the Check for Update button.  (thanks Joe!)

Being an early adopter and addicted to getting my iPhone to do what I want, I also hacked into it with help from this site:

http://www.modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_iPhone_Modding_102

which I do not recommend prior to installing this update.  As I experienced several crashes and had to start from scratch…(remember the activation screen with the earth?)

So the update scrapped the mods (buh bye ringtones) and made Safari more secure…

So lesson learned.  I am now back in action.

On the bright side I came across this good news:

Happy iPhoning!

Master Cleanser Diet

Today I am beginning the Master Cleanser Diet again...

The basic premise is this:

2 TBSP lemon juice (1/2 lemon)
2 TBSP Grade B Genuine maple syrup
1/10 tsp Cayenne pepper (or to taste)
10 oz. Water medium hot (purified)

Take 6 – 10 of these glasses a day. I bought a 64 oz jug and make it all first thing in the morning (3 lemons, 10 -12 TBSP Maple syrup, 1 capsule of Cayenne, 60 ozs water).

Every night before bed drink a cup of laxative tea.

Every morning as soon as I get up, I drink EITHER a cup of laxative tea (I use traditional Medicinals) or a full quart of salt water.

Salt water

1 quart warm water
2 Tsp uniodized sea salt
The salt water acts as a “flush” for your colon/intestines. I try to drink mine all within 5 -10 minutes. Then you need about an hour of being close to the bathroom.

Top 10 issues I have with the iPhone

Top 10 issues with the iPhone;

These are my top 10 issues currently with the iPhone.  My caveat is that I LOVE THIS TECHNOLOGY…so that said, even if it seems negative, I believe that there are a few enhancements that could occur to make it just a little better of a device to use….

  1. Compatibility with current iPod speakers and devices.  I have now been able to try it with a few headsets and sound projection devices.  Overall it works, but sometimes the quality is not as good (or loud).  I had to “hack” my Bose noise cancelling headphones in order to get them to work.  Other cradled devices suggest turning off the phone (airplane mode).
  2. Interference:  I have my iPhone connected to a PC and whenever it is near the PC or syncing there is a lot of white noise interference –buzzing and cracking.
  3. Make a new contact integration.  It would be great if an unrecognized number would provide an option at the end of the call to add a contact (much like my Treo does).
  4. A better wifi option…by default I keep it off to extend battery life, but it would be great to have the option to turn it on when you check emails and surf the web.
  5. A settings button in most applications like email, internet, ipod, phone, etc.
  6. Youtube ?  It seems to not have new content coming in often…
  7. Greasy Screen…have to clean often (limit others touching).
  8. ATT’s stupid www.viewmymessage.com (needs a browser, login and password which doesn’t work on the iPhone) when someone sends you a photo from a phone that is not an iPhone (ie no current MMS capability).
  9. Camera: No video, sound, or flash (third party software and attachment in the works?)
  10. “Metal” frame scratches easily.  Much easier than the bomb proof glass does.  I bought a killer case (case mate) for the phone and it scratched the whole lower part of the metal ring.
